Description

Receive Error 440: Automation Error when Scanning.

Summary

This error indicates there is a problem with one or more of the files associated with the scanner driver.  In order to resolve this error, you need to delete several files from the system and reinstall PaperFlow.  If you are using a scanner that requires a driver that is not natively provided with PaperFlow, you need to ensure you have the installation files for the scanner driver before proceeding with these instructions.

  1. The first thing you need to do is uninstall PaperFlow.  This can be done by going into the Control Panel and selecting Add/Remove Programs and selecting PaperFlow.  Note:  This will not affect your data groups. Once PaperFlow is reinstalled, it will reconnect to the data groups automatically.
  2. Once PaperFlow is removed, do a search in Windows for "SETSCAN.INI" and delete it from the system.  Then do another search for "PIX*.*" and delete all of the files that are found.

Reboot the system and reinstall PaperFlow.  Once you log back into the system, you should be able to re-select the scanner and no longer receive the automation error.
