Error 4769: Command Failed - Check Log

A user attempts to scan a document into PaperFlow and receives the following message: Error 4769: Command failed – check log.

This error is generally caused by a hardware malfunction on the scanner. PaperFlow is not able to properly communicate with the scanner and the system returns this error message.

To resolve this, follow the steps below:

  1. Shut down the computer and power off the scanner
  2. Power on the scanner and then turn on the computer
  3. Log into PaperFlow and attempt to scan, many of these issues can be resolved by simply cycling the power on the scanner and computer. If no errors are encountered, no further changes are needed.

If the scanner continues to return errors, you may need to run some additional diagnostics and perform additional troubleshooting:

  1. Run any scanner diagnostic utilities you have for your particular scanner model in order to determine the hardware malfunction and fix it. For example, Kodak scanners have a Scan Validation Tool. These tools generally produce a log file that indicates the nature of the malfunction. Many scanners also display hardware error codes which can be found in the documentation for the scanner. Appropriate steps should be taken to resolve the error, or the scanner manufacturer should be contacted to have a technician service the device.
  2. Install (or uninstall/re-install) the latest scanner drivers from the scanner manufacturer’s website
  3. Restart PaperFlow and attempt to scan. If problems persist, please contact technical support
