Unable to initialize scanner: Scanner hardware problem, check scanner and paper feedermain image

Description

After selecting the scanner in PaperVision Capture’s Scanner Settings, one of the following errors is displayed: Unable to initialize scanner: Scanner hardware problem, check scanner and paper feeder. Unable to initialize scanner: Can’t locate SCSI device; check cable and power.

Summary

One of these errors may be displayed when an incorrect scanner model is selected under Scanner Settings. This is usually because the scanner manufacturer has included several models of the scanner on the same driver installation, and the wrong model was selected. As a result the wrong model information is now recorded in the setscan.ini file.

To correct the issue, follow these steps:

  1. Close PaperVision Capture Enterprise completely (both the Admin and Operator Consoles) on the workstation in question.
  2. Browse to C:\Users\{username}\AppData\Roaming\ISIS Drivers\ and delete the setscan.ini file.
Note: For older operating systems (e.g. Windows XP), the setscan.ini file is located at C:\Documents and Settings\{username}\Application Data\ISIS Drivers\.
  3. Re-launch the Admin or Operator Console and reselect the scanner. Make sure to the model name in the drop-down window matches the scanner being installed.

Note: After selecting the make/model from Scanner Settings, a second window “Configure Device Settings” may open. Verify the scanner model displayed under Selected Device in this window also matches the scanner being installed; otherwise the same error may be displayed.
