Description

Summary

Summary:
When attempting to open documents and using Google Chrome 77 or later, users receive the following prompt:

open-dsi.pvwa.host

Description:
Due to security concerns, Google Chrome removed the ability to always open applications when clicking links which use protocols registered by those applications. This security update affected the PaperVision/ImageSilo Web Assistant and its launchpvwa://links.

You can disable this prompt for the launchpvwa:// protocol by adding the protocol to Chrome’s URL whitelist, which you can read more about here: https://cloud.google.com/docs/chrome-enterprise/policies/?policy=URLWhitelist

To add the protocol to the whitelist, create a Windows Registry file by copying and pasting the following three lines into Notepad, then saving it with a .reg extension (e.g. launchpvwa.reg).

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Google\Chrome\URLWhitelist]
"1"="launchpvwa://*"

After saving the file, double-click on it to run the registry update. If you receive the following prompt, click Yes to continue:

registry-confirmation

It will be followed by the success message from the Windows Registry Editor:

success-pop-up

This should cause Chrome to stop prompting every time users open documents.
