Unable to Read File (file name). API has been invalidated or closed.main image

Description

When user attempts to view documents from within the PaperVision viewer using thin client the error is displayed: Unable to Read File (name). API has been invalidated or closed.

Summary

In later Windows platforms (i.e. Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008) the UAC was implemented as a security feature that could control individual user accounts. When running an installation of PaperVision Enterprise with this enabled, it creates the PVDM.INI file in a “Compatibility File” location. In addition PaperVision will not recognize this location when trying to find the File Cache Path or URL Cache Path.

To resolve this follow the steps below:

  1. Ensure the File Cache Path and URL cache are set to proper locations within the PVE Admin Console.
  2. After that has been verified, you will need to navigate to C:\Program Files\Digitech Systems\Common Files\ directory.
  3. Highlight the file and then click the “Compatibility File” located underneath the browser bar.
  4. Copy and paste this PVDM.INI file into the C:\Program Files\Digitech Systems\Common Files\ directory.
  5. Be sure to rename the already existing PVDM.INI, in case additional modifications are needed.

Note: Newer versions of PaperVision Enterprise will properly negotiate User Access Controls to avoid virtualization of the PVDM.INI file.
